Since the series began in 1962, some of the world’s most sought after cars and high-octane car chases have been the DNA of success for the James Bond movies.
Mensxp.com digs through the James Bond movie logs and brings to you a definitive list of the top 10 Bond cars, that you aspire to drive.
"Bond's car was his only personal hobby.” - From 'Casino Royale', Ian Fleming
1) Aston Martin DB5
The beauty DB5 surfaces the moment you think of James Bond. Seen for the first time in the 1964 film ‘Goldfinger’, the luxury car came powered by a 282-horsepower 4.0-liter engine. It was much ahead of its time with amenities such as reclining seats, wool pile carpets, electric windows, etc.
2) Lotus Esprit
Seen in 1977’s ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’, Lotus Esprit is something which is loved all over the world by the guys. It is not just a car, but a compact submarine too. So indulge in underwater adventure with this beauty, which comes equipped with anti-aircraft missiles.
3) Ford Mustang Mach 1
Another gem from the garage of James Bond, Ford Mustang Mach 1 was seen in ‘Diamonds are Forever’ in 1971. And mind you it was the real star of the Bond movie in every sense of the word. It would indeed be manna from heaven for the narrow and congested roads in India.
4) BMW Z8
We can never have enough of Bond cars, can we? In ‘The World is Not Enough’ (1999),BMW Z8 comes equipped with out-of-the-world features like radar-guided stinger missiles and remote control pads on the keyfob. Now, do you think why a guy would love to own this one needs any further explanation!
5) Aston Martin DBS
The DBS is certainly one worthy successor of DB5. The DBS packs a hand-assembled mid-mounted 6.0-liter V12 engine that brings a full 510 horsepower to the pavement. The seven-roll stunt in the ‘Casino Royale’ makes it a darling of men the world over.
6) BMW 750iL
Are you game for driving a car while hunched in the backseat? Sounds incredible, but then that’s the way Bond cars are. Just be comfortable in your backseat while driving the car and unleash flash grenades, tear gas, rockets and a metal spike dispenser on your enemies with your specially modified Ericsson cell phone as a remote controller. Yes, you got it right!
7) Lotus Esprit Turbo
Just imagine your car being blown to pieces the moment someone tries to steal it. Sounds incredible, isn’t it? But that’s the beauty of Bond cars. The self-destruct feature of Lotus Esprit Turbo in ‘For Your Eyes Only’ is still fresh in our memories.
8) Citroen 2 CV
Any car lover would love to lay his hands on a 2CV with a hotter engine, a modified transmission and a reworked frame as was shown in ‘For Your Eyes Only’.
9) AMC Hornet Hatchback
It’s James Bond’s death-defying heroics that can make any car a super car. And the classic example of this is AMC Hornet. The spectacular corkscrew jump over a canal in ‘The Man With The Golden Gun’ makes it a cynosure of all eyes.
10) Aston Martin V8 Volante
Lasers in the hubcaps, rocket booster, skis, and a guided missile system, plus the usual bulletproof windshield and self-destruct system, what more can a man asks for in his car. It would be a sheer delight to drive this beauty.
For all the havoc he creates behind the wheel, Bond really must have a license to kill on the road.
