If you have a handwriting that makes it difficult for others to read, it beats the basic purpose of writing. You must look to improve your writing to communicate better. However, while improving your handwriting may not be easy, it most certainly is possible at any age.
Most people live under a fallacy that the older you get, the more difficult it becomes to improve your handwriting. Handwriting is a part of professionalism, and it is not measured by the parameter of age. Let’s see how you can improve your handwriting:
1. Cursive Writing
Determine how you want your handwriting to appear to a reader. Buy some cursive writing books from a book store and analyze it by observing different fonts.
2. The Right Tool
Choose a pen that will give you the best grip. The better your grip is, the more comfortable it will be for you to write and have control over your handwriting. Your pen should feel comfortable in your hand.
3. More Than Just Fingers
Use your hand and not just fingers for writing. Most people with poor handwriting have this habit of putting stress on their fingers, which tires them soon enough, thus further affecting the handwriting. Apply less pressure while writing. Make sure you are not gripping the pen too tightly. Do not press too hard while writing, as it will affect your ability to draw even lines in your writing. It will also affect your control over the pen.
4. Repetition
Repeat writing the same letters over and over. This follows the principle of ‘practice till it makes you perfect’. The individual letters must be practised continuously and the same should be followed with the whole alphabet.
5. Don’t Just Write, Draw
Go back to your school days. Drawing will help you have a better grip on your pen. The more you draw, the more control you will have on your pen.
6. Go Slow
Do not be in a rush while writing. If you are already suffering from the poor handwriting syndrome, it is highly recommended that you reduce the speed of your writing. And when you start a letter, give yourself at least a second to draw it.
7. Pay Attention
Pay heed to the lines on the paper. These lines would enable you to determine the size of each letter and the balance between different letters. They would help you write each letter at a straight base. The capital letters should be written in a way that they fill most of the space.
Learning to write better and improve your handwriting is a must in any professional sphere. Whilst the devices we use may limit the need to write on paper, a poor handwriting that surfaces at the wrong moment can cause embarrassment and despair to the writer. It is far better to avoid such a situation and have a good handwriting instead.
