Music and movies have always shared a common stage to express an array of emotions in ways and means unfathomable. And then there are those few moviesthat tend to amalgamate both in the most beautiful fashion. Here they are!
1. Ray
The man who revolutionized music during his time, Ray Charles has gone on to become a household name for every music lover and musician alike. Telling his story is a tedious task in itself, yet Jamie Foxx essaying the role of Ray is spectacularly flawless and will make you fall in love with him that instant. The movie depicts the ups and downs and delves deep into the mind of soul of one of the greatest musicians to ever live. ‘Ray’ is a golden movie, and will make you want to watch it over and over again!
2. Crossroads
Not to be confused with the Britney Spears flick of the same name, ‘Crossroads’ is a guitar player’s delight! Remember the kid from the original ‘Karate Kid’? Well, he’s the same guy doing the same underdog thing, albeit this time around he’s all set to whoop some ass with some maddening guitar-work. But the cherry on the cake is the final showdown between the underdog kid and the reigning champion who happens to be none other than Steve Vai!
3. Almost Famous
A film that captures the brilliant perspective of an avid fanboy capable of fulfilling his dream by touring with his favourite band; ‘Almost Famous’ has all the right elements for a fan to relate. Watching the chaotic life of rock and roll and getting embroiled into the rebellious enigma of superstars is a delight to watch! A stellar role by Kate Hudson assures that this flick will not disappoint.
4. Tenacious D
A Jack Black flick, ‘Tenacious D’ comprises of everything whacky and quirky that Black has stood for. Combining his love for rock and metal, and giving it a hilarious twist, Jack Black tells the story of a boy who embarks on a mission to make his mark in the world of heavy music only to stumble upon relics that lead him to a duel with the devil. Yes, it’s that absurd! Paired opposite his bandmate Kyle Gass, both belt out some classic tunes as well as pay tribute to some legendary stars from the rock and metal scene! Watch this for a mad ride!
5. O Brother, Where Art Thou?
George Clooney is a master at his own game, and this one’s played right in his backyard. ‘O Brother, Where Art Thou?’ has Clooney and his loony friends as convicts escaping from jail-time to look for a treasure all the while bumping into a variety of crazy characters who eventually play a vital role by the end of the flick. The music aspect comes when the trio tries to make money by singing for a radio show and a whole new adventure kicks off from there! Watch this one to grasp it fully and you may very well be humming its tunes!
6. School Of Rock
Jack Black and his unconditional love for rock is palpable in everything that he does, and he does it to a whole new extent. A crash course in rock history, ‘School Of Rock’ is a fun flick in which Jack Black pretentiously becomes a school professor only to form a rock band full of school kids and go completely insane! Watch the movie to check out some ridiculously talented kids belting out songs one after another while Black does his usual routine of crazy antics!
7. This Is Spinal Tap
A movie that has gone on to become a cult flick over the years, ‘This Is Spinal Tap’ is a mockumentary that went on to capture the lives of rockstars and their stereotypical lifestyles in the 80’s. Revolving around the fictitious British band Spinal Tap and a fan who documents their American tour, ‘This Is Spinal Tap’ proves to be a hilarious ride in itself! Garnished with a heavy dose of rock and metal innuendos, ‘This Is Spinal Tap’ proves to be a fun watch for a rocker and a general movie lover alike!
